Application Case | KMDA-3302 supports Brazil's intelligent traffic light monitoring system

The Urgent Need for Urban Traffic Management

With the acceleration of urbanization, many cities are facing increasingly severe traffic congestion and a growing number of traffic violations. Traditional manual enforcement methods can no longer meet current demands. There is an urgent need for an efficient and reliable intelligent traffic monitoring system to improve traffic management efficiency and reduce accident rates.

Core Challenge: Hardware Adaptation in Extreme Environments

To address traffic congestion and enhance safety and efficiency in urban transportation, a smart traffic solution provider in Brazil launched an intelligent traffic signal monitoring system. Selecting a suitable control device was a critical step in ensuring the success of the project.

✅ Located in the tropics, with high temperature and high humidity (ambient temperature up to 45℃, humidity 90%), extremely high requirements are placed on the stability, durability and computing power of hardware equipment.

✅ The system requires basic functions such as license plate recognition and real-time data processing, requiring a device equipped with at least 2 LAN ports and 2 COM ports to support the connection of peripheral devices.

✅ To meet the need for real-time remote data transmission, the device also needs to offer flexible expansion capabilities, with support for 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless communication options.

JHCTECH Solution: KMDA-3302 Industrial Computer

The Brazilian customer finally selected KMDA-3302 as the core computing unit for their traffic light monitoring system. Its key advantages include: ✅ High-performance computing ✅ Compact and rugged design ✅ Rich I/O interfaces ✅ Flexible expandability

The KMDA-3302 is powered by the Intel® Tiger Lake U-series processor, and this solution specifically utilizes the Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 CPU, delivering the computing power required for rapid license plate recognition and real-time data processing. Its compact size makes it ideal for installation in wall-mounted enclosures. The system features a SGCC metal chassis and is equipped with a 4-wire fan with adjustable speed control. It supports an operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C, and a storage temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, with 10–95% relative humidity at 40°C (non-condensing)—ensuring reliable performance in Brazil’s hot and humid environment. It offers rich I/O connectivity, including 2× LAN, 8-bit DIO, 2× COM, and 4× USB, enabling seamless integration with peripheral devices for data collection. With 2× M.2 expansion slots, it supports 5G NR, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth modules, ensuring real-time remote data transmission to the central traffic monitoring system. The system supports wide-range DC input (9–36V) and is equipped with reverse polarity, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection, ensuring long-term stable operation.

Program Outcomes: Data-Driven Traffic Optimization

  • Reduced Violation Rate: Precise enforcement effectively lowersred-light violations and other infractions.
  • Improved Traffic Flow Efficiency: Smart traffic signal control optimizes vehicle distribution for smoother flow.
  • Reduced Accident Rate: Real-time monitoring and early warnings help reduce collision risks and enhance road safety.
